A fine field for the 2nd round of the Dynastar KV Courchevel this Wednesday 2 August. 56 cyclists took the start of this 15.5 km time trial with 1,000 m of elevation gain.
This Vertical Kilometre (VK) by bike, unique in France, is attracting more and more cyclists, trail runners and ski mountaineers. It must be said that for several years now, the organisers from the Courchevel Sports Outdoor club have been promoting these 3 disciplines by creating innovative race formats and concepts.
3rd in the 2nd round of the Plum KV Courchevel trail run last Wednesday, Yoann Stuck followed up with a 3rd place on the 6000 D and finished this Wednesday in 8th position (51min44s). He could not compete with Yoann Sert, three-time winner of the Dynastar X3 Courchevel, the extraordinary triathlon that combines cycling, trail running and ski mountaineering. Currently 2nd in the Plum KV Courchevel trail run, Yoann Sert set the new provisional record of the Dynastar KV Courchevel 2017 in 43min25s. Xavier Gachet, holder of the provisional record of the Plum KV Courchevel 2017 trail run in 37min56s, came second with a time of 45min and Julien Lodolo took third place in 45min57s.
Among the women, it was Axelle Mollaret who set the new reference time in 53min22s. She has won everything in Courchevel since the start of the year. She took the Millet Ski Touring and Plum KV records in ski mountaineering, won the Dynastar X3 as part of a team, won the Red Bull 400, and since last Wednesday leads the Plum KV trail running standings. 2nd in the Dynastar KV Courchevel in 2016, Axelle is well on her way to taking the 2017 record.
Mélanie Jeannerod, the KV trail running specialist, finished in 56min58s followed by 2011 French trail running champion Stéphanie Duc in 58min49s. Three-time Dynastar X3 champion, Stéphanie will be at the start of the New Balance X-Trail Courchevel 33 km this Sunday.
Tuesday 15 August is the cycling finale. The verdict of this 2017 Dynastar KV Courchevel season will come in, and the men’s and women’s records will be rewarded with prize money of €500. For this final climb, registration will be taken at the race start at Le Carrey from 9 to 9.45 am and the first start will be given at 10 am. A meal will be offered to all participants at the Hôtel Mercure.
These 3 cycling Vertical Kilometre races count towards the “X3 KV Courchevel Challenge 2018”. To be ranked in this challenge, you must take part at least once in each of the 3 Vertical Kilometre events on offer in Courchevel. To do so, all you need to do is get on your bike for the 2017 “Dynastar KV Courchevel”, put on your trainers for the 2017 “Plum KV Courchevel” and strap on your touring skis for the 2018 “Plum KV Courchevel”. The ranking for this challenge is the sum of the best trail running, cycling and ski mountaineering times for each participant, and the best men’s and women’s times of the year will receive prize money of €800, with €500 for the runners-up and €200 for the third-placed. In 2017, it was Axelle Mollaret and Valentin Favre who won this Challenge!
A good way to prepare for the extraordinary triathlon, which has become the unmissable event for outdoor sports enthusiasts, combining these 3 disciplines in one day, the “Dynastar X3 Courchevel”, which will take place on 15 April 2018 (you can register online for this final event at courchevelsportsoutdoor.com).
