Mathéo Jacquemoud wins the “Vertical Race”
After missing out on the World Cup “Individual” race in Verbier on Saturday having broken a boot during the race, Mathéo Jacquemoud took his revenge this Sunday 19 January in the Vertical Race.

After missing out on the World Cup “Individual” race in Verbier on Saturday having broken a boot during the race, Mathéo Jacquemoud of the club “Courchevel Sports Alpinisme” took his revenge this Sunday 19 January in the Vertical Race.
A fine win for Mathéo Jacquemoud in this “Vertical Race”, which was decided in a sprint at the finish with the Spaniard Kilian Jornet. The Catalan unfortunately did not finish second after receiving a penalty during the race and ended up in third position, leaving the Italian Damiano Lenzi ahead of him.
Among the women, it was Laetitia Roux who won this Vertical Race ahead of the Swiss Maude Mathis and Victoria Kreuzer.
A fine day for the French and particularly for Mathéo Jacquemoud who will be highly motivated next weekend in Courchevel for the second stage of the World Cup (25 and 26 January). “Today, I put things back in their place! Yesterday, my legs were there in the Individual and if I hadn’t broken my boot, I would have been in the mix. I’m very happy with my win today in the Vertical Race, I’m in great shape at the moment and I fully intend to blow everything apart in Courchevel to defend the colours of the resort and of France next weekend for the second stage of the World Cup,” Mathéo tells us at the finish of the race.
The opening ceremony of the Courchevel World Cup will take place on Friday 24 January at 4.30 pm in the forum in Courchevel 1850, with the bib presentation to the 5 best men and women in the provisional 2014 ski mountaineering World Cup standings.
To come and cheer on Mathéo Jacquemoud and all the other international athletes, as well as the competitors in the “Open Millet Coupe de France” race, the Société des Trois Vallées is offering all spectators free access on Saturday 25 January to the Verdons gondola from 8 am to 9 am and to the Saulire cable car from 9 am to 12 noon to watch the “Individual” race, which will take place in the Saulire massif. Free access to the Praz gondola will be offered on Sunday 26 January from 8 am to 1 pm to follow the “Vertical Race” between Le Praz and Courchevel 1850.
If a fallback course is used for Saturday’s “Individual” race, free access will be offered on the Loze drag lift.
