2024 starts strongly on the Millet Ski Touring Courchevel
2024 starts strongly on the Millet Ski Touring Courchevel
For this Olympic year, sport will be showcased more than ever in Courchevel thanks to the many events organised by the club Courchevel Sports Outdoor. Enthusiasts and specialists of ski mountaineering, triathlon, trail running, mountain biking, paragliding or cycling will be able to enjoy the quality of the events, which keeps improving thanks to the passion of many volunteers, and take advantage of the resort’s many assets. The first race of the season took place this Wednesday 3 January as part of the 4th round of the Millet Ski Touring Courchevel, with more than 120 ski mountaineers at the start. This Vertical Race event will celebrate its 200th stage next Wednesday. In this context, the trophy Raymond and René Millet 2024 (founders of the partner company Millet), to be awarded to the winners of this 14th season on 20 March at the grand final, will be presented. For the occasion, the Twelfth Night cake will join the party, with many prizes to be won by the lucky ones who find the charms.
On their first climb of the season, Mathéo Jacquemoud and Yoann Sert enter the top 10
Winner of the Millet Ski Touring Courchevel in 2013 and 2016, 2022 long-distance ski mountaineering world champion Mathéo Jacquemoud won in 23min01s after a close fight with French Trail Vertical Kilometre champion Yoann Sert, second in 23min16s. These performances allowed them to enter the top 10, respectively in 6th and 8th places behind French Vertical Race champion Thibault Anselmet, still leader in 21min21s. The battle for the 3rd step of the podium was just as hard-fought between Théo Allemoz, credited with 24min12s, and the 1st Norwegian to take part in the MSTC, Bjorn Herfindal, finally 4th in 24min19s.
Lorna Bonnel pulls out all the stops
2024 starts very strongly for Lorna Bonnel. After a trial run in a time of 30min08s at the French championship last 6 December, she posted a time of 28min42s, a first-rate performance that allowed her to win but above all to rise to 4th place in the provisional overall standings, still led by Emily Harrop in 21min21. Elise Perrin took second position in this 4th round in 33min40s, hotly pursued by Cindy Josserand-Bal, 3rd in 34min11s.
A popular success recorded during these end-of-year holidays
Over the 15 days of holiday, 279 competitors rushed to the start. Besides France, 10 nations took part in this competition, which asserts its international character. The palm goes to our Belgian friends with 14 representatives present this Wednesday, including Michael Saverys, the first of them, credited with a Belgian time of 32min05s.
