All the best ski mountaineers had arranged to meet this week at the World Championships in the resort of Piancavallo in Italy, and at the end of the vertical race held on Tuesday, we find on the men’s podium the same names as in the provisional Dynafit Ski Touring standings (Kilian Jornet, Yannick Buffet and William Bon Mardion).

Of the 69 starters in this new edition, there were no new records, but some fine results, starting with the women and the fine victory of Stéphanie Duc, who finished first in 32min06s and takes 2nd place in the provisional overall standings behind the Swiss Gabrielle Magnenat. Armelle Favre of the CAF Vanoise Tarentaise followed in 33min46s and Daniele Bonnevie in 34min. Among the men, Yann Gachet of Ski Alpinisme Chamonix won in 26min12s ahead of Anthony Fraissard of the 7th BCA in 26min13s and Steven Blanc in 27min23s.

At the start of the climb a dozen future great champions of the discipline were present. Six young people from the cross-country skiing section of the Club des Sports de Courchevel did not hesitate to take on the 3.2 km track with 500 m of elevation gain to defend the colours of the resort. In the under-14 category, Morgan Lamure won among the boys in 45min15s and Pauline Pétracin took 2nd place among the girls in 54min29s. Among the under-12s, Julie Blanc won in 43min19s ahead of Karla Pires in 55min08s and Eve Bouvard in 1h15s. And in the under-16 category, Alice Bouvard dropped out, but she will certainly be there next time.
