Records fell on the 9th round of the Dynafit Ski Touring Courchevel (DSTC) for Kilian Jornet Burgada and Emelie Forsberg.
As the first part of the course of the Vertical Race event of the “French championships” on Saturday 2 February was identical to that of the DSTC, the runners' times were counted for the overall ranking and a special prize-giving was held.
Reigning world champion Kilian Jornet Burgada of the Chamonix club, present at this French championships event because of his Spanish nationality, could not claim the French champion title but won the Scratch ranking. With a time of 22min48s, he won this 9th DSTC and set in passing a new provisional record for the season in 22min48s. Alexis Sévennec of CAF Haut Chablais Morzine took 2nd place in 23min13s ahead of Pierre-François Gachet of the Arêches Beaufort Multisport Club in 23min30s.
Among the women, it was Skyrunning world champion Emelie Forsberg, the Swede who with a time of 27min14s smashed the climb record held since last year by Laetitia Roux in 28min12s, and won this new edition ahead of Axelle Mollaret of CAF Annecy Compétition in 27min53s and Valentine Fabre of the Club des Sports de Chamonix in 29min26s.
At the mid-point of the DSTC season, the race for the record is on again and from next Wednesday (6 February) Kilian and Emelie will be back on the start line with the aim of “blowing up the clock” before leaving for the world championships.
